Just doing a routine update and got this message:

I don't believe that 12 (I'm on Monterey = 12.4) is no longer supported by apple. Is this correct information?

The current latest macOS 12.x version, 12.7.6, is expected to be the last update for Monterey. macOS 15 releases on Monday alongside macOS 13.7 and macOS 14.7 and Apple support only 3 macOS versions at a time (so 13, 14 & 15).

We too only have CI testing resources to support 3 macOS versions. We've reallocated our macOS 12 CI to be macOS 15 yesterday.

I’m sure you’re right, but the warning came as a surprise to me.

It also broke one of my tools which upgraded but without support for Monterey, so it’s update night at my house.

I will pile on a little bit, Apple support hasn't ended yet. The point is taken that it is probably going to happen soon.

Homebrew's support period doesn't have to align with Apple - we just generally try to. I guess we could say that Homebrew's support period is slightly before Apple's end by a few days - it's just close enough to call it the same. This policy has been the same in most previous years too.

We also have a second tier of support where macOS 10.11 to 12 does still "work" but you may have to build more and more things from source as we don't offer prebuilts for those versions. So when we dropped support for macOS 12, not every package doesn't suddenly stop working at once - just new versions going forward will require source builds and are untested whether they work.

Absolutely agree. What I recommend is to remove the wording about Apple (which isn't necessarily true, and isn't relevant) and provide a link to the page that explains your support for older macOS versions.

I think the 2 days where this is not completely accurate if you're on a developer configuration do not outweigh the years to come where this will be accurate.
