Newbie RPi HyperHDR Software Installation Question #776

Please excuse my gross lack of knowledge when it comes to RPi. I'm confused on how to install HyperHDR on the RPi 3B+. Looking at the software install page, it looks like the SD card image installation is deprecated. What are the proper steps for RPi installation these days. Thank you so much for the help!! |

@awawa-dev Okay, great, thank you for the clarification. Question: Is there any harm in stripping a micro USB cable and connecting that from PSU to micro USB on ESP32? Just to reduce number of plugs needed. |

I think it should be OK. Ground from the LED power supply is already connected (via level shifter line), so you only need +5v via USB from the same power supply. BTW, if I have the opportunity to check how the power supply system of this board is built, whether there is any protection for USB or not, maybe you can use +5V through GPIO. I only say it's up to you to verify it. |

I have a similar board, but the problem with them is that at some point Chinese engineers may decide to improve them and quietly change something. I don't want to take such a risk to avoid misunderstandings: the only safe one (using a standard interface) is USB power supply. And more cables. |

You dont want to connect esp32 to RPi using USB? Then you do not need a separate cell charger. |

You can do that.... but just be aware that you'll be limited in the amps you can pull from the pi.... and it doesn't take too much for an LED light installation running on ESP32 with WLED to need more than the pi can supply... especially if you want them to be nice and bright. Experiment and see if you're happy with the power you get... For the 205 LEDs around my set, there's a definite difference powering them from the pi and from a separate supply. Personally I have have 1x Pi running Kodi, 1x Pi running HyperHDR, 1x ESP running WLED.... and I power them all from 1 5V 20Amp power supply... open case design... I cut all three USB A ends off, and connected the Red / Black (blue in one case!) wires to the V+ V- terminals... all three devices can take all the power they want... all at 5V... no issues with underrated power supplies. |

@awawa-dev Okay, so I made an error in wiring the RPi 3 to Esp32. Now that it's fixed, I am able to get effects to show, and I'm getting confirmation on Screen that I've got good frames, but I've lost my live video visualization, which used to work. I've got some errors in my log. Thank you for your help! Here's the rest of the log: |

@awawa-dev I'm not sure exactly why this worked, but I switched over to 32-bit everything. Changed the RPi 3 to 32-bit and installed the 32-bit version of the Linux HyperHDR v19 build and now it's all working great. 🤷♂️ |

Hi
Use the official Raspberry Pi Imager to install latest OS for your board. Before writing the image in the configuration option I recommend to use pi user and setup strong password. Also you may want to enable SSH and configure WIFI. Then after boot ssh to RPi and install repo https://awawa-dev.github.io/
In next release I will try to bring back SD images based on the older bullseye Debian version. Still it is depreciated method because of changes in the official OS release.
